Pride Month Profile: Jesse Santa Cruz

Throughout LGBT Pride Month, CA Technologies celebrated by spotlighting a few of our amazing employees from the LGBT Community. Even though Pride Month is technically past, we have one more outstanding employee we’d like to introduce.

Meet Jesse Santa Cruz, Coordinator, Talent Acquisition, who is based in Boulder, CO. Jesse began working for CA two years ago. He originally worked for Rally Software, then helped the recruiting team when CA acquired that company.

We asked Jesse to describe exactly what a Coordinator, Talent Acquisition does.

“I ensure that candidates and interview teams meet on time and have meaningful conversations that lead to stellar hires for CA. A typical day for me includes tons of interview scheduling for roles across the country, meetings with the local HR team, and assisting the Talent Acquisition Marketing team with tasks such as social media analytics and copy editing.”

“This is my first role, and I’m glad that I kick-started my career with CA!”

Jesse says that the culture in the Boulder office has had a great impact on him as a member of the LGBT community.

“I have worked in places where I struggled with being completely open with my co-workers with what I do on weekends, who I go on dates with, and what my true interests and hobbies are. The team here in Boulder is judgement free.”

When Jesse isn’t at work, he enjoys getting outside for a hike. “Living in Boulder, Colorado, the outdoors is king!” You can also find him sifting through thrift shops for quirky graphic tees, and “attempting to emulate Bob Ross paintings with small yet incremental success.”

What would Jesse say to a member of the LGBT community considering a career with CA Technologies?

“Bring What You Bring! I would tell them that if they are looking for a job in tech, CA is a great place to be. CA’s clear dedication in messaging, as well as actions about increasing diversity is proof that the stale ‘hush  hush’ corporate environment is being disposed of with the culture of inclusion that CA Technologies is striving to create.”

LGBT Pride Month Profile – Steve Macfarlane

CA Technologies is celebrating LGBT Pride Month by championing a few of our amazing employees from the LGBT Community.

Meet Steve Macfarlane, Senior Director of Education & Services (EMEA), based in the UK. Steve regularly sings, performs and acts as an MC for events. Aside from that he serves as a trustee for Michael Causer Foundation (a local charity that provides advice and support for young people 16-25 who may have challenges in family or environment due to their sexuality – it was set up in the name of Michael who was killed in 2008 just for being gay).

What is a Senior Director of Education & Services, you may ask?

To describe Steve’s role in simple terms, he makes sure the business is providing a positive customer experience ensuring customers are enabled on CA products.

Steve as consort to the Lord Mayor Of Liverpool at the Liverpool Town Hall

I support my team in driving value with sales teams and customers. We’re continually seeking new business and driving new initiatives.

Steve joined CA Technologies some 12 years ago. He currently has a home office, and spends a lot of time travelling around Europe particularly to Prague and more often to our UK offices at Ditton Park.

I’m in Education to assess what our future business will look like. It is a highly volatile market with massively changing client needs. I’ve also played my part in other parts of the business supporting developing markets (particularly MENA, South Africa) & major projects in Northern Europe.

CA offers a wide range of rewards and benefits that appeal to different employees. When it comes to what Steve has taken advantage of as a member of the LGBT community, CA’s internal diversity network ‘THRIVE’ has been a standout for him. He has nothing but huge praise for the allies who play a key part in the LGBTA THRIVE group.

CA definitely benefits from having diversity in our workforce – evidence shows that this improves creativity and productivity with the company. Providing a supportive environment where everyone can be themselves and are accepted is a big deal within global companies.

I experienced discrimination a few times early on in my career and would not wish that sort of thing to happen to others – pleased to say this never happened in CA or previous company I worked for. However, discrimination still exists and we have an important role to play inside and outside of CA.

Showing we have a thriving LGBT group may help others in the company be more comfortable about themselves and they may also want to join the group.

Bring What You Bring

With CA’s “Bring What You Bring” employer brand, we asked Steve what he brings to CA Technologies.

Innovation is a constant. I sing, perform regularly and occasionally write songs – which I think helps with work innovation and creativity. I am also customer centric with an emphasis on customer empathy.

Steve’s day typically starts with a number of forecast and business reviews. He’ll then typically work on client proposals as well as develop new business opportunities.

I’ll try to do a gym visit if I’m in my home office. Afternoon and some evenings will normally involve calls with my colleagues in the US, particularly on new offerings and initiatives.

When it comes to the favourite part of his job, Steve loves being surrounded by his great team, as well as the variety, change and challenge his role offers him personally.

I love being part of the team work at CA. We have a good team in Education and I’m very pleased to work alongside them in Europe and globally.

Steve meeting one of his idols, Neil Sedaka

Steve has been actively involved in CA’s THRIVE LGBT work stream over the past couple of years. He’s part of the group that help educate those around him, both inside and outside the company to be accepting of others.

Having a THRIVE group for LGBTA (A=Allies not apathy) is very important to me as both a gay person AND as someone who sees equality and diversity as important – both inside and outside of the workplace.

When one or two states in the US were introducing discriminatory bills/laws, it was a massive thing to see our CEO, Mike Gregoire be one of the signatories to a letter to North Carolina legislators – it proves we are serious about our messaging.

Steve would most definitely recommend CA Technologies as an employer of choice.

We are a very open company that actively encourages diversity and a big supporter of equality – come join us!

Pride Month Profile – Lauren Rapkin

CA Technologies is celebrating Pride Month by spotlighting a few of our amazing employees from the LGBTQ Community.

Meet Lauren Rapkin, Senior Event Planner. Lauren is a remote employee working from her home Maryland, where she begins each day with coffee and a morning walk with her puggle, Bailey.

Lauren’s career journey with CA started four years ago when CA acquired Layer 7 and she was promoted into her current position. In her role, Lauren strategizes, plans and executes all types of events CA hosts or participates in, including tradeshows, conferences, workshops, customer advisory boards and, of course, CA World. Earlier this year, she completed our Leadership Development Program (LDP), a year-long program targeting leaders at all levels.

“I love that each day is different. Since I work on many different types of events, most days include collaboration with different teams and departments. Some weeks travel is required, which I enjoy!”

Bring What You Bring

Outside of work, Lauren enjoys photography, crafting, and building things. She says this naturally enables her to think outside of the box and come up with unique solutions.

“Creating memorable face-to-face experiences is what I do. I want customers to walk away from an event feeling a connection to CA, understanding that we can work with you to solve your business challenges.”

We asked Lauren about her experience with CA as a member of the LGBT community.

“It’s always been extremely important to me to work for a company that aligns with my own personal values. I got married two years ago and the team threw me a bridal shower, so sweet! I’ve always felt very comfortable being me. Having the respect and support from CA fuels my drive, I WANT to go the extra mile.”

What about CA benefits?

“CA has generous benefit plans, including fertility coverage and adoption assistance. This can be extremely helpful for LGBT couples looking to start a family.”

What would Lauren say to a member of the LGBT community considering a career with CA Technologies?

“Join our team! This is a place where we work hard, smart and are challenged to break barriers. CA has made diversity and inclusion a priority.”

Pride Month Profile – Meghan Stabler

We continue to celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month by spotlighting a few of our amazing employees from the LGBTQ Community.

Meet Meghan Stabler, Advisor, Business Unit Strategy.

Meghan originally started working for CA in the 90s, left to join another company, then rejoined CA in 2010, which she jokingly refers to as her “second tour of duty” with CA. Meghan works from her home office in a town just north of Austin, TX, where she says the views from the three windows in her workspace “bring a smile to my face every day.” She enjoys the collaboration of her teammates and other CA employees.

“I get to work with some absolutely great people, inspiring leaders and motivated team members. That helps me bring passion to what we do. I love it!”

We asked Meghan to describe her role at CA.

“I’m working to ensure our CEO Renewal message and value proposition is front and center, internally and externally. My core objective, along with other members of Trevor Bunker’s Lifecycle Management team, is to ensure our customers extract maximum value realization from their product investments with CA.”

LGBTQ Equality

As a transgender woman, Meghan has been a leading member of the LGBTQ community and has worked extensively for LGBTQ equality for more than two decades in the workplace, military service and society. She has advocated for the repeal of the U.S. military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, worked tirelessly for marriage equality, and has even testified before the U.S. Congress and many state houses to ensure workplace non-discrimination laws include sexual orientation and gender identity protections.

“If we are only authentic at home and not at work, then we are only bringing a part of ourselves to our job,” says Meghan.

Meghan praises CA for their inclusive policies.

“CA has been a great champion for our LGBTQ causes and internally has many benefits that cover LGBTQ employees, couples and their families. That is something to be proud of!”

What would Meghan say to a member of the LGBT community considering a career with CA Technologies?

“CA is the right choice. If you are looking for an inclusive, safe and welcoming workplace, where you can bring your authentic self and skills to help transform customer businesses, then CA is the place.”

If you’re ready to be your authentic self at work and bring what you bring to CA, Search here or create a custom job alert to get notifications on roles that match your search.

LGBT Pride Month Profile – Fabio Mazetti

CA Technologies is celebrating LGBT Pride Month by spotlighting a few of our amazing employees from the LGBT Community.

Meet Fabio Mazetti, Senior People Operations Analyst, who is based in Islandia, NY. Fabio began working for CA two years ago in Brazil and made the move to New York earlier this year.

We asked Fabio to describe exactly what a Senior People Operations Analyst does.

“I am responsible for reporting and data analytics – data driven decisions or the ‘3D View’ for the HR Business Partners Community to ensure they have the intelligence they need to run their business.”

Soon after he started working at CA, Fabio joined THRIVE, the company’s diversity network.

“I joined THRIVE right after I joined CA. There’s always ways to foster diversity at your office either being a LGBT or an ally.”

A typical day for Fabio starts early in the morning with a good homemade breakfast.

“When I arrive at work, I like to plan the rest of my day. Although I try it, the environment at CA is so dynamic that, sometimes, I end up doing things out of the agenda.”

Even with a dynamic work environment, work-life balance is still important. Regardless of what’s happening, a couple of espresso breaks (Fabio is an avid coffee lover) and lunch away from his desk usually make the agenda. He ends at least three days of his week at the gym, where he loves yoga class.

Outside of work, Fabio loves “movie theaters and popcorn and a good cup of coffee.” He is also an animal lover who rescued two sets of sibling cats who traveled with him from Brazil to complete his family in the U.S.!

We asked Fabio about his experience with CA benefits as a member of the LGBT community.

“There are so many, but the same-sex spouse coverage is awesome. It’s great that CA includes same-sex spouse/partners in health insurance. It had a weight in my choice to come to the USA.”

What would Fabio say to a member of the LGBT community considering a career with CA Technologies?

“Life here at CA Technologies is where you’re encouraged to fearlessly Bring What You Bring. We thrive on maintaining a diverse and inclusive workplace. What you’ll experience at CA is more than a career journey; at CA, you’ll be rewarded with the experience of career development support, a deep commitment to our customers and our communities, zealous recognition, and a quality work-life balance!”

LGBT Pride Month Profile – David Sanchez

CA Technologies is celebrating LGBT Pride Month by championing a few of our amazing employees from the LGBT Community.

Meet David Sanchez, Research Engineer, based in Spain. David is quite the gamer and loves playing video games in his spare time.

What is a Research Engineer, you may ask?

To describe David’s role in simple terms, he keeps an eye on technologies developed in universities, or other research centers, with the potential to be applied in CA’s products.

Whenever possible, I help in the advancement of such technologies in collaboration with Universities and other partners. For instance, I am currently in a European-funded project with partners across Europe with the objective of studying how to improve University-Industry collaboration to foster and accelerate knowledge transfer.

David chose CA Technologies as his first employer when starting his career back in 2014.

After finishing a Master’s degree in Mathematics and Engineering, I decided to continue my career by pursuing a doctoral (PhD) program. As part of the industrial doctorate program, the research branch of CA Technologies in Barcelona started a collaboration with the local government for hiring new PhD candidates. I fell in love with the idea of the project and I immediately applied. Three years have passed, and I will be completing my thesis this September.

CA offers a wide range of rewards and benefits that appeal to different employees. When it comes to what David has taken advantage of as a member of the LGBT community, CA’s internal diversity network ‘THRIVE’ has been a standout for him.

I believe THRIVE has helped in my personal development. Initially, I had the impression that I had to hide my own feelings as a member of the LGBT community, to act ‘properly’ in a professional environment. The culture that THRIVE creates at CA has helped me to realize how wrong I was, proving how inclusive an organisation it really is!

Bring What You Bring

With CA’s “Bring What You Bring” employer brand, we asked David what he brings to CA Technologies.

As the non-techie guy in the group, I provide a different perspective during problem resolution. Besides, my ability for pivoting and experience with changing contexts, the team feel reliant upon me for projects of different magnitude and scope: From very scientific and methodical projects in collaboration with university professors, to program-level discussions.

David’s day typically starts as the Spanish tradition mandates, with a cup of coffee with his fellow CA family.

The usual planning for the day involves several meetings with my colleagues and, phone calls / e-mails with external researchers. During these meetings, I work on disseminating the obtained results internally and externally. Not as often as I would love to, I travel to meet other research partners or present the results in international scientific conferences.

When it comes to the favourite part of his job, David definitely loves being constantly on the edge of knowledge.

It is true that the uncertainty of working with hypothesis generates stress, as they may be proven false (or not-so-useful) some months later. But the satisfaction of seeing your work being discussed and appreciated by other known (and admired) researchers… makes everything worthwhile.

David is fortunate to work in the wonderful city of Barcelona, as he refers to, “a dream place for anyone in the LGBT community in Spain”.

Besides that, I love the atmosphere that the open-space concept in CA’s offices. It helps us to connect with people in other departments, to know each other, and to generate new research ideas based on background conversations. I also love how I can ‘customize’ the desk to show my freaky / japan-lover / gamer personality.

David would most definitely recommend CA Technologies as an employer of choice.

I would recommend CA to any member of the LGBT community (and non-LGBT too) as its culture is perfect for the personal and professional career development.

LGBT Pride Month Profile – Angelo Apollos

Angelo Apollos

CA Technologies is celebrating LGBT Pride Month by championing a few of our amazing employees from the LGBT Community.

Meet Angelo Apollos, Senior Principal, People Business Partner, who is based in New York City.

What is a People Business Partner, you may ask?

“I help the senior leadership teams of the business units I support to develop and execute the strategies, programs and initiatives aimed at attracting, developing and retaining our best people.”

Angelo began his career with CA in 2004 as an HR Generalist supporting the Australia and New Zealand-based mainframe and security software engineering business units. In 2007 he took an 18-month expatriate assignment in Hyderabad, India as the head of HR for CA’s India business. Following that role, he returned to Sydney to support several APJ business units before relocating to New York City in 2013 to take on a more globally focused role.

It was during his assignment in India that Angelo learned that CA would be there to support him not only professionally, but personally.

“With no recognition of same-sex relationships there was no viable option for my husband to accompany me to India while I was on assignment; CA went to extraordinary lengths to support my husband and I throughout the time I was on assignment in India by providing us with support and resources to help us manage the long periods of time apart. My manager and the Global Mobility team recognised the challenges and stresses that long distance relationships create and were willing and able to deviate from standard policy to provide my husband and I with a differentiated expatriate package and job flexibility to support our needs.”

 Bring What You Bring

When asked what unique traits he brings to CA Technologies, Angelo said,

“I bring my ability to operate in dynamic and ambiguous situations, my curiosity about the world, my desire to lead change and my passion to help people achieve their best. I also bring my off-beat sense of humor, my love of wearing suits and ties mixed with a generous dose of ‘we can do this’ attitude and the ability to find the bright side of even the worst situations.”

Angelo also brings generous support of his colleagues.

“Having LGBT colleagues or who are parents of LGBT children reach out to seek support for some of the challenges they’re dealing with at work or at home has been hugely rewarding. Being able to leverage my life and career experiences as an out gay man to help others in our community is very humbling.”

What would Angelo say to a member of the LGBT community considering a career with CA Technologies?

“Do it! Bring what you bring! We want the best of who you are and what you can do. Don’t be afraid to let your light shine, be willing to roll up your sleeves and never forget there’s a lot of people here who want to help you be successful!”
